Rachel Zegler Steps into Disney’s Latest Live-Action Gamble with Snow White

Disney is back in the live-action game, looking to finally hit the jackpot while working on Snow White. Its live-action history in this latest incarnation has been—well—something of a mixed bag. Dropping March 21, 2025, the lead character will be Rachel Zegler as the starring and title character of Snow White. She’ll square off against Gal Gadot, who’s entering her villain era as the Evil Queen. The movie looks to be another fantasy spectacle—because when in doubt, throw in some CGI and hope for the best.

Disney is, of course, saying very little: the studio is known for keeping its cards close to its chest, but even the briefest of previews was enough to keep fans hanging on the edge of their seats after this year’s D23. So far, we’ve seen a bit of Snow White from Zegler and a bit of the Evil Queen from Gadot. If there’s one thing to be sure of, it’s that Disney will work its magic of nostalgia yet again to get fans of the classic animation on their feet. Whether the adaptation of this particular classic animation will succeed or not, one cannot foretell. Yet at least, it will most likely be visually stunning.

The Never-Ending Stream of Disney Live-Action Adaptations

But even with some shockingly questionable results, Disney is clearly all-in on its live-action remakes of every animated classic. This year, they’re tackling the story of Mufasa: The Lion King will detail the backstory of Simba’s dad, because apparently, that’s something we all really needed. And they’re not stopping there — brace yourselves for upcoming live-action versions of Moana, Lilo & Stitch, Hercules, Bambi, and probably every other movie you used to love.

It’s helmed by Marc Webb, responsible for The Amazing Spider-Man movies. The screenplay is primed by none other than Greta Gerwig, straight from the success of Barbie. She certainly has a massive following eager to see what kind of twist she will add to this classic princess tale. Gerwig teams up with Erin Cressida Wilson, who has written scripts for The Girl on the Train.

Snow White will be in cinemas starting from 21st March 2025. Let’s see if it has Disney pulling a rabbit out of their hat this time around or it’s just déjà vu all over again.
